Let Parliament Work, an initiative of Indian citizens living abroad and in India, this movement originated on the Social Media. During the Winter Session, citizens realised that discussions on non-issues were being given importance over precious debate-hours on important bills.

There are 10 extremely important bills that are pending. For example, the not passing of the GST bill is costing the county approximately INR 20,000 to 40,000 crores per annum. This amount can be used for generating 100% jobs for Rural Youth.

The aware and likeminded community of “Let Parliament Work”, decided that enough was enough. So a coordinated nationwide peace march was organized on December 16th where cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Banglore, Jamnagar, Amravati, Lucknow, Mirzapur, Indore, Purnia, Ahmedabad and many more.

Citizens came out on the road all over India to request the politicians to stick to the agenda and not stall the parliament, as it cost Rs, 2.5 lakh per minute to run the parliament . In the past few sessions 2162 hours and INR 3243 crores has been wasted due to stalling and disruption. Other bills such as Real Estate Bill, Electricity Amendment Bill, Commercial Courts bill, Prevention of Corruption Bill, Whistle blowers Bill,  Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Bill, Bureau of Standards Bill, Negotiable Instruments Bill and Arbitration and Conciliation Bill that were pending in the Parliament are critical for economy of India.

India has been a citadel of democracy and our Parliament is the symbol of that democracy.   However, sadly the very instrument of democracy is subverted and the cherished goals of our nation are blocked for political gamesmanship.  Our neighbouring country China has progressed by leaps and bounds and its economy is 5 times that of India today.   While countries across Asia are progressing, India’s progress is being hampered by our institutions of democracy, our own Parliament.

Heeding “freedom and fundamental duties” enshrined in our Constitution, many organizations in India have joined hands under the banner ‘Let Parliament Work’. The forum is a civil society group which brings in scientists, doctors lawyers, engineers and professionals from different walks of life. It also includes activists, artists, movie makers, spiritual leaders, entrepreneurs and many eminent personalities from different professions.   An earlier Petition to Members of parliament for smooth functioning of the parliament by India’s industry leaders has received nearly 64,000 signatures.   A video of the situation is available at the website.

“Let Parliament Work” got huge media support which proves that even media is supporting this noble cause.
